Hop on when you can, log off when you like
CTFO runs on lots of people doing a little each. Here's how a wipe comes together when nobody has to be online all day.
Hop on, pick a job, hop off
There's no schedule to sign up for and no minimum hours. When you log on there's always something useful to do and someone to do it with. When you've had enough you go. The next person carries on.
Any time you like
An hour after work, a long Saturday or ten minutes before bed. All of it counts.
Never on your own
With hundreds of members there's nearly always someone in the village to run with or ask.
Nothing lost when you leave
Loot goes into the shared base, so whatever you farmed in an hour helps everyone tomorrow.
Something for every level
Pick what you fancy. Stick with one and get good at it, or try a different one each night.
Gathering
Wood, stone, metal and sulfur. The easiest way in and the thing the village needs most. You'll learn the map without trying.
Farming
Planters, genes, water and food for everyone. Calm work with a surprising amount to learn.
Building
Walls, huts, honeycomb and upkeep. Experienced builders plan it, everyone else learns by helping.
Electricity and crafting
Turrets, power, the workshop and the recycler. For the ones who like tinkering.
Defence
Watching the walls, keeping turrets stocked and calling out trouble calmly on comms.
Monuments and roaming
Small groups heading out for loot. New players come along to learn, nobody's left behind.
Everyone teaches, everyone learns
Rust is hard to get into on your own. It's a lot easier when the person next to you has done it a thousand times and doesn't mind showing you again.
- New players start in the training yard inside the walls, safe while they work out the basics
- Experienced members can mark themselves as happy to teach, so you always know who to ask
- Asking a question is never a bother. Not knowing something is the normal state of being new
- Mistakes are expected. Someone blew up the wrong wall? It's a game, rebuild it
How a wipe tends to go
Every wipe's different, but the shape is roughly the same. The big difference from most clans is the end, we're still standing.
-
Wipe day
Find a spot, build a starter
Lots of us online at once. Find a spot, get a starter base down and start working on the walls.
-
Once the walls are up
Turrets, when we get there
Turrets are their own job. They're unlikely to be up on day one and nobody expects new players to get there.
-
The rest of the wipe
Push the walls back
Expanding the safe zone and pushing the walls further out, so there's more room for everyone inside them.
-
All the way through
Teach and mess about
Teaching new recruits and generally messing around in the safety of numbers.
Sound like your kind of Rust?
Read the rules first. It's short and it's the bit that matters.
